About Taif's Climate
Taif is western Saudi Arabia's classic summer retreat, set at roughly 1,880 metres (6,165 ft) in the Hijaz mountains, and its climate is meaningfully milder than the nearby coast or interior. Summers from June to August are warm but manageable — daytime highs tend to sit between 33°C and 36°C (91–97°F), and the lack of humidity plus the altitude let evenings cool off sharply after sunset. Winters are short and crisp; January averages range from about 8°C at dawn to 22°C in the afternoon, with occasional chilly nights. Rain is unusually well-distributed for Saudi Arabia, totalling around 240 mm a year with a spring peak in March and April and a smaller late-summer burst. Taif's elevation supports a distinct agricultural microclimate that underpins its famous rose and pomegranate farms. The sweetest windows are March–May and September–October. Practical tip: book rose-farm visits in April during distillation season, and expect a noticeable temperature drop once the sun sets, even in summer.
