About Madinah's Climate
Madinah sits in Saudi Arabia's western interior highlands and shares the Kingdom's broad desert pattern, though its slightly elevated, inland position gives it milder winters than Makkah. In August, afternoon highs average around 43°C (109°F), while January daytime temperatures settle near 24°C and pre-dawn readings can drop below 12°C. Humidity stays low year-round, so the heat feels dry and more bearable than coastal cities at the same temperature. Rainfall is sparse — under 60 mm annually — and comes in occasional showers between November and May; July and August sometimes bring dry thunderstorms with lightning but little rain. Dusty winds can blow across the oasis in spring. The most pleasant window for a visit runs November through March. Practical tip: in summer, plan Prophet's Mosque visits for the hours after Asr prayer, and keep hydrating steadily if you spend long periods on the open plazas.
