About Najran's Climate
Najran lies in Saudi Arabia's far south, close to the Yemeni border, at roughly 1,280 metres elevation — high enough to place it in the subtropical-highland desert band. Summers are hot and dry; July daytime averages hover around 38°C (100°F), but the dry air and altitude allow a meaningful overnight drop. Winters are mild to genuinely cool, with January ranging from about 10°C before dawn to 25°C in the afternoon, and the evenings are perfect for outdoor majlis settings. Rainfall is very limited and scattered across spring and early summer; the region sometimes catches the tail of monsoonal flow pushing up from the southern peninsula, producing brief but intense flash showers. Dusty winds are common in spring. The best window to explore the Najran Valley and its heritage sites runs October through March. Practical tip: when heading into the valley floor after a passing shower, stay aware of rising flood lines — wadi systems can flash quickly even when the rain itself looks modest.
