About Khamis Mushait's Climate
Khamis Mushait sits on an elevated plateau in the Asir region, just east of Abha, and its altitude gives it a moderate, semi-arid climate year-round. Summers from June to August are refreshingly easy by Saudi standards — daytime highs usually run 28–33°C (82–91°F), and nights can drop below 18°C. Winters feel genuinely cool: January averages sit around 10°C at dawn and 21°C in the afternoon, with surrounding highlands occasionally dipping near freezing before sunrise. Rainfall is more reliable than in most of the Kingdom and picks up noticeably in July and August under the influence of south-westerly monsoonal flow, bringing frequent mountain thunderstorms and short, intense downpours. The best window for parks, outdoor cafés and day trips to the Asir escarpment runs March through October. Practical tip: plan park visits and hikes for early morning to dodge the afternoon summer thunderstorms, and pack a light jacket for evenings even in the hottest weeks of the year.
