About Dhahran's Climate
Dhahran is a small inland city tucked between Dammam and Khobar, and it shares the Eastern Province's hot, humid desert climate. Summers are punishing, with July and August highs regularly topping 43°C (109°F); weather stations in the area have historically logged readings above 50°C during heat waves. Gulf humidity pushes the real-feel index well above the actual temperature, especially after sunset. Winters are mild to briefly cool, with January daytime averages between roughly 12°C and 20°C and occasional morning fog on the open flats. Early-summer shamal winds bring dust that can linger for days. Rainfall is sparse — generally under 90 mm a year — and concentrated between November and March. The most travel-friendly window runs late October through mid-April. Practical tip: watch for dust advisories in shamal season, and schedule outdoor events after sunset during the hottest summer weeks when midday exposure becomes genuinely risky.
