About Dammam's Climate

Dammam stretches along Saudi Arabia's Gulf coast, giving it a hot desert climate that summer humidity pushes to some of the most uncomfortable levels in the Kingdom. From June through September, highs regularly exceed 42°C (108°F) and overnight humidity can climb past 85 percent, sending the real-feel index into dangerous territory. Winters are short but noticeably mild, with January daytime temperatures between roughly 12°C and 22°C and occasional chilly nights. The city sits directly in the path of the early-summer shamal winds, which blow in from the north-west across the Iraqi desert between June and early July, carrying dust that sometimes cuts visibility to a few metres. Rainfall is light, under about 100 mm a year, mostly arriving in scattered winter showers. The most pleasant window for Corniche outings and sea fishing is November through March. Practical tip: in summer, lean on air-conditioned indoor plans at midday and check dust advisories before driving the Riyadh highway.
